CERTCommunity Emergency Response Team (CERT)
The C.E.R.T. program helps to prepare citizens to assist within their communities in the event of a disaster. The training consists of instruction in disaster preparedness, emergency first aid, light search and rescue, fire safety, disaster coordination, terrorism, communication and disaster psychology. This training offers a great opportunity for team members to assist their family, friends and neighbors in the event of a major disaster. There is no cost for the program, but students are asked to commit to attend each class in order to certify as a C.E.R.T. trained volunteer. Those completing the training will receive a certificate of completion and will be listed as a resource for use by the city and county in event of a disaster. The program for new members is scheduled based on community interest and additional courses are offered for certified C.E.R.T. members to refresh and enhance their skills. Each participant is encouraged to take the electronic C.E.R.T. course offered by the Citizen Corps Council. This internet course provides the learner with some valuable information about the roles and responsibilities of C.E.R.T. members. Division leaders have been recruited and are ready to begin organizing local teams. Each division will begin to host training sessions on a quarterly basis. At least annually, there will be a Tremonton CERT event where all volunteers are brought in for combined training. The next community CERT training will begin February 27, 2013 starting at 7:00 pm. This class will be taught each Tuesday evening at the Tremonton Fire Station for seven weeks. Class size is limited, so please contact us to reserve your spot.
