Emergency Management
This is an exciting time to be living. Technology has made our lives easier and more enjoyable. In spite of these niceties, Mother Nature has still shown that these things have done little to stop the destructive powers of natural disasters. Across the central portion of our great nation, we are witnessing the awesome destructive power of tornados and rising flood waters.
We have had our own taste of these forces. The earthquake in Wells, NV was felt through our valley, as well as the one in Thatcher/Penrose that damaged the Senior Center. Our valley has had a small tornado and micro-burst winds that have damaged our city in the past three decades. Our community is not immune to these types of disasters. We must take the time to plan and prepare for them. The time is now!
Presidential directives have required all communities to begin the process of disaster preparedness. Tremonton City is working hard to prepare and to meet both federal and state preparedness requirements. The City Disaster Plan is being rewritten to coincide with federal, state, and county plans. This effort will ensure that all government agencies are working together to meet preparedness goals. The mayor, city council members and city employees are taking extra courses on the Incident Command System, which will help them remain focused on the needs of the citizens of Tremonton if and when that disaster occurs.
Tremonton citizens are volunteering time to become members of the Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT). This team is a group of volunteers that can be called to assist city employees during and after a disaster. These dedicated volunteers have participated in a 25 hour training course that helps them understand how they can help their neighbors until additional help arrives. The CERT team is currently being reorganized and will be participating in bimonthly training sessions to hone and update their skills. More volunteers are needed. For information on the CERT program click here. This website contains an on-line training course that will familiarize you with the CERT program. If you are interested in becoming a member of the team, please contact the Tremonton City office at 257-2632 and leave your name and contact number.
We encourage you to start today in becoming prepared. There are many websites available that can assist you.
